Guide: Vegan bakeries, vegan-friendly cafés and plant-based cakes in Copenhagen
Copenhagen cafés don’t offer vegan alternatives to a large extent, unfortunately – but luckily for you I have compiled a list of vegan-friendly cafés, bakeries, and places to visit if you feel like enjoying plant-based baked goodies.
When I moved here (from Stockholm, Sweden), I thought Copenhagen would have the same amount of vegan options, but there’s definitely room for more vegan-friendly cafés (and restaurants) to open up in Copenhagen. Copenhagen is a great city for foodies, and I hope more café owners see the big interest in plant-based options and start catering for that. I can definitely see the interest for vegan options in Copenhagen in my analytics :)
If you enjoyed this list, you’re more than welcome to share it with your friends and give me a follow on Instagram (where I post about sustainable fashion and Copenhagen) and subscribe to my YouTube channel.
From the bakery Ameta
Ameta, Gammel Køge Landevej 22P, Valby
The bakery Ameta opened in spring 2025. It isn’t a completely vegan bakery, but they offer a lot of options for those who want plant-based. Everything I’ve tried is absolutely delicious and definitely worth biking 10 k for (lol, a great morning tour for me). Ameta is run by a couple; Italian and US-American and has brought influences from their countries; you’ll have some sweets, some croissants, some focaccia and breads. There are a few seats outdoors, but it’s more of a pick up and enjoy somewhere else kind of place. Menu and hours change so check out their Instagram. My warmest recommendations.
H.U.G, Øster Farimagsgade 20, Østerbro
H.U.G is a gluten-free bakery that also are wise enough to offer some plant-based options. Located in Østerbro and has some outdoors seats. Very yummy!
Café Kaf, Birkegade 21, Nørrebro
A vegan bakery and café. They’ve been around for some time and have lots of seating outdoors, as well as some indoors. My favourites are the vegan croissants and pain au chocolat. They also usually have a few options of vegan cheesecake and also some sandwiches. Don’t bring your laptop (lol).
Bake My Day, Amagerfælledvej 162, Amager & Fisketorvet
When in need of a beautiful cake, think wedding cake or something else fancy, Bake My Day is your bakery. But they don’t only offer cakes, they also make delicious donuts and the yummiest cupcakes - and the best part is – a lot (the majority?) are vegan! Jackpot!
Gazelle Kaffebar, Amagerbrogade 153, Amager
As a local Amager resident you can’t believe how happy I was to see that this café was switching to become plant-based. So far the selection is small but they do offer vegan icecream from Moo Moo Isbar and fantastic vegan creamy fluffy balls from Glean, in Danish called flødeboller. They have seats indoors as well as outdoors, with afternoon sun.
Glean, Torvehallerna & Fisketorvet
Glean makes the most delicious fluffy aquafaba creamy puffs that are very popular in Denmark (called flødeboller and non-vegan). Glean can be found at Torvehallarna close to Nørreport station or at Fisketorvet in Vesterbro. They also offer some truffles and other things. A smaller selection of their goodies can also be found at the mentioned café Gazelle in Amager.
Alice, Markmandsgade 1, Amager
Every summer the loved (and quite expensive) fancy coffee shop Alice make their own ice cream - and to my great happiness - they often include a few vegan flavours as well. Note that this is not a vegan café (unfortunately!), but the ice cream is yummy.
Restaurant Madenitaly
Madenitaly, Slagtehusgade 1, Kødbyen
Madenitaly is a plant-based restaurant located in Vesterbro/Meat packing with lots of seating both indoors and outdoors – and they obviously also have vegan desserts.
Joe & Juice and Espresso House
When on the run there are two chains that actually cater for us plant-based babes. Joe & Juice has super delicious raw cakes and the Swedish coffee chain Espresso house have a few vegan buns, cookies and pastries.
